And Just Like That, It Was Over…

And finally, the trip was over. We woke up in the morning and motored for a few hours upwind toward the marina to return the boat and clean up. We were going directly into the wind, with 3 to 5 foot waves, which made for a bumpy (but fun!) ride. I’ve heard before that cameras don’t do justice to the size of waves, and as I looked back at the video, I realized how true this was. It may not look like too much, but the seas were throwing us around pretty well.

We spent a few hours in the marina packing up and cleaning the boat, and then headed to a local hotel for the afternoon before taking a ferry in the morning and a flight home.

This was a truly amazing trip! It was a major milestone in my sailing education, and I earned the remaining certifications that I needed to be able to charter these boats on my own in the future. This is a never-ending journey of learning, but it was a significant step forward for me.

I can’t wait to go back and do it again. I think this is going to become a regular thing and I’m already looking at dates to book a boat next year. I just need to gather a group of friends (hint hint) and make a reservation. If you’re interested and want to go next year, hit me up! 🙂
