San Juan Island (and Canada) Sailing – Part 2

The second half of the trip took us to Sidney Spit (where we had a beach party with the whole group, Victoria BC (staying in a slip right in front of the Empress Hotel), back through Friday Harbor, Stuart Island, and finally Cypress Island before heading home to Bellingham.

It was a great mix of isolated islands and overnights in town. Dinner in Victoria was a treat at an eclectic Irish Bar, which served great Poutine, hockey playing on every screen (welcome to Canada, eh?), and a live country music band (they were pretty good).

Our last day getting into Bellingham included some heavier weather and waves, which was a great experience too.

This trip was an incredible learning experience with some skilled people (who I am so appreciative of) and friends that I’m looking forward to spending more time with in the future.

The view at anchor looking north from Cypress Island. Beautiful!

Found a few examples during our time in Canada of Canadians being fed up with the US, but they were kind and polite to us as always.

I had to do a couple work meetings along the way. Luckily the boat had Starlink which made it easy. During one of these meetings I looked over and noticed that the window was underwater (the boat was healing over so far from some good sailing going on up top).

This was so funny! These two kids took their poles and threw a line in the water in the marina. It was a good time right up until one of them actually caught a fish and FREAKED OUT! Didn’t know what to do, so someone came along on the dock and helped them get the fish off the line. Hilarious!
