Our last few days were spent in Nuremberg (you guessed it, a Christmas Market) and then back to Munich.
The Nuremberg market probably had the best food of the trip. And back in Munich, we wandered the city visiting things we’d not seen the week before, including a local surf spot. Yep, that’s right, the city has routed a river in such a way that they have created a place in the river to surf. It was way too cold for anyone to be using it on the day we visited, but during the summer, I’ve read it’s a hopping spot.
We had lunch at the Hofbräuhaus München beer garden (and toasted with some orange soda). Something really neat was that if you are local, you can store your beer stein at the beer garden. There are racks, and you just lock your glass up with a padlock and then it’s waiting for you the next time you come. Pretty cool!
And then it was time to head home. One final treat was to find that with as many Christmas Markets as we’d seen in the last week, there was one last one waiting for us. At the Munich Airport. A huge Christmas Market just in case you had not gotten your fill already during your time in Germany.
In spite of a few travel hiccups, Kenzie and I had a great time. She really wanted to see Christmas Markets, and I think after this trip, she can safely check that off her list. We also learned a lot of history, experienced a concentration camp, and enjoyed lots of German food. Best of all, we had time on trains and while walking around town to talk and spend quality time with each other. These are the sorts of experiences that I know I’ll look back on one day as some of the best times in my life. I’m very lucky to have this time with her.
