You know how, once in a while, an opportunity comes along that is just too good to pass up? Well, I had that happen a few weeks ago. I was talking with a friend who was headed to Tahiti the next day to charter a sailboat and go sailing around the islands. Turns out he had an empty room available on the boat, and so…a few hours later, the tickets were booked, and a plan was made.
The plan was 7 days of sailing around various islands in Tahiti (including Bora Bora), plus a few days before and after the sailing for travel there and back. It started with an overnight in Tahiti (the big island), and I was able to plan enough time to check out the island before an island hopper flight to where we picked up the boat.
Tahiti is the most populous island (by far) of the Tahitian islands, and where international flights land. We spent the first day checking things out by driving around the road that circles the entire island. Along the way, we visited the island’s main market, stopped at a few beaches (black sand beaches on the east side and white sand on the west side of the island), and had some great food all along the way.
