While we still had a couple more days in Tahiti, today was the last day of sailing and on the water. It was a great adventure, with a sail to the east side of Raiatea to an inlet with a freshwater river leading into the jungle. We took the dinghy from the boat and worked our way up through this river, which was an incredible experience through the jungle. There were people living in the jungle along the way, and at one point, we even saw the equivalent of a roadside fruit stand, except it was in the river for people passing by boat. Just as we reached a point in the river that was too shallow to go further, there was a botanical garden. I have not idea who created or maintained it out in this remote place, but it was a beautiful place to wander through.
And with our final adventure complete, it was a few hours back to the marina. We spent the last night in the marina, which allowed us to have dinner at a very nice French restaurant on the island.
